How it works

  1. The game loads in the page, usually in an iframe from the CAPTCHA provider.
  2. The provider checks signals such as play time and whether any pointer or key input happened.
  3. A pass produces a signed, single-use token that your server verifies.

Where it matters

  • Sites that want a visible challenge with less reading and squinting than image puzzles.
  • Like every browser CAPTCHA, a game can be scripted by a determined attacker, so pair it with server checks.

In CaptchaKit

CaptchaKit offers 18 arcade games of about 6 to 20 seconds each, with an accessible check for visitors who cannot play.

Questions

Are game CAPTCHAs more secure than image CAPTCHAs?

Not automatically. They change what an attacker must build. See the research summary in the linked answers.

How long does a game take?

Each CaptchaKit game lists an average play time between about 6 and 20 seconds.

Is there an option for people who cannot play?

CaptchaKit's widget has a Can't play? Accessible check link that issues the same token.
